19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hard courts
A comeback Medvedev won his maiden trophy for nearly 30 months with victory over opponent Moutet in the competition championship match.
Medvedev, a ex- number one, has had a challenging period, achieving just one match at the big events and experiencing a meltdown at the US Open.
His unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serve in specific - resulted in him exiting of the elite rankings and finally splitting with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.
Presently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually improved in the recent weeks - culminating in a tightly fought competitive victory over challenger Corentin Moutet.
This marks the player's initial trophy after the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard surface since that period of 2023.
Victory also signifies Medvedev has achieved twenty-one titles at twenty-one various competitions.
"It's the first time I'm at a competition with my two daughters at once, so to get a trophy is really nice," commented tennis professional Medvedev.
"This championship is in honour of my second daughter my daughter, because the first title I achieved when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."
Medvedev, the former major winner, had lost his last six finals, including in Halle earlier this year.
His retrieving strategy and regular reactions on court had prompted some to doubt if his skill to compete at the highest level was finished.
Yet the 29-year-old has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to come to the net and perform aggressively, reinforced by an enhanced service.
The champion came back from a deficit in the opening set against the difficult Moutet, taking four of the final five points to gain the advantage.
The pair exchanged breaks in the middle set before the challenger, striving for his first tour title, seized the initiative to create a third set.
Moutet rescued four initial chances in a tight third set before Medvedev secured a break to that score to close out the victory.
Suitably, the winner earned the title with a shot at the net, with his opponent unable to handle a return after over two and a half hours.
